Jackson County Sheriffs Mounted Posse

  Welcome

Thanks for stopping by!

The Jackson County Sheriff's Mounted Posse was organized with the interested citizens of Jackson County in 1947 and chartered by the State of Missouri in June of 1949.

The Members consist of volunteers serving the citizens of Jackson County, Missouri at the pleasure of the Jackson County Sheriff. Originally only male members were accepted. some years later the organization accepted female members. Under the auspices of the Sheriff's office it is a Para-military organization, in that there is a chain-of-command. The members are all volunteers. Delivering to the Sheriff's office assistance without compensation from the taxpayers. Many, but not all members are mounted on horseback with training to assist in areas inaccessible by car or on foot.

Jackson CountySome are trained in search and recover missions. Some of the members are certified Jackson County Law Enforcement Officers having completed and still maintain the necessary training and range qualifications. To be fully commissioned and certified peace officers, there are mandatory requirements set forth by the state of Missouri. Some but not all members regularly are maintaining their mandatory requirements to remain certified.

To become a member, one must be at least twenty-one years old, with no criminal record, be approved by the Sheriff, and Posse membership. Members must be willing to serve Jackson County as a volunteer without pay. Since we are a mounted group, one must have and maintain a serviceable horse and transportation.
